Allied Health Program at COCC

On-The-Job Training

Firefighters - COCC Structural Fire ScienceAs a student entering the COCC Structural Fire Science program, the next two years will be both challenging and exciting for you.

Students, you are encouraged to carefully consider the commitments to both the curriculum and to the agencies in terms of affiliation. Agencies are looking for well rounded individuals. Students should strive for an appropriate mix of school and personal time.

Please take time to talk to career professionals who hold the jobs to which you aspire. Careful planning and good execution is critical to your success and job attainment.

In addition to the core courses, students must be affiliated with a fire agency and receive NFPA Firefighter I, DPSST Hazardous Materials Awareness / Operations and Incident Command Systems certification, prior to receiving a COCC Structural Fire Science degree. This is a degree requirement!

***It will be up to the student to become affiliated with an agency for a minimum of one year, in order to gain required certifications.

Assistance will be provided, but you the student must be prepared to seek and attain your own affiliation. Most local agencies offer affiliation and some offer scholarships. It is up to you the student, to contact the agencies and obtain the necessary information.
